Well. It's been a little bit, hasn't it? Some really lovely and fun things have been happening behind the scenes over here, in and out of the studio.

Earlier in the summer I had the amazing surprise of being one of the winning entries for the Ottawa County Art Trust's newest additions for their permanent collection. My painting Dune III will be on display in the full exhibition through September 8. And then will be on display in one of the county buildings permanently. (I'll update this information when I know it).

I also have a photograph, Quiet Morning, in an exhibit in Frankfort at the Elizabeth Lane Oliver Arts Center through August 22, 2025 for their Sailing Life: The Adventure of Michigan's Waterways exhibition. This photo is one of my favorites. It was taken on my grandmother's camera from the 1950s and it just exudes the calm that northern Michigan inland lakes have in the mornings, before everyone is awake and in their boats. It's the time of morning when you see loons or hear the fish jumping. I dream of living on one of these lakes and having my coffee out on the dock everyday.

Another happy surprise that occurred in the last month was that I was accepted into an "Artist in Residence" program in France! Talk about dreamy! Sadly it was not one of the fully funded programs, so I won't be able to attend this one ~ this time around at least. But just knowing that my art appealed to the organization is boosting my confidence some and it's giving me the encouragement to apply to other programs.

Lastly, you may have seen on Instagram that I was interviewed by Voyage Michigan They had previously interviewed me a few years ago, and it was great to give them an update about how things have shifted over the last few years.

I'm looking forward to getting back to the easel. The last few weeks have been busy with visiting family and doing some house decorating and I just haven't had the time for everything. Creative outlets and inspiration happen in many forms, but I'm missing the feeling of standing at the canvas watching the picture form. Hopefully I'll have some finished works to share with you before too long!
